Salam All,

Since we will be starting Sunday School in the middle of Ramadan, I thought we could have some sort of a "15 Day Challenge".  The idea is that we provide students in each class with a list of 15 - 50 good deeds ranging from easy to hard.  At the end of Ramadan, on the Eid Day Party, the class that averaged the highest amount of good deeds gets to take home a special prize.  So here is the question:

  • Should we have one school wide Good Deed list OR a Good Deed list customized for each class
  • I am thinking the classes will be determined by Islamic Studies Class
  • What should be the prize?
  • What should be on the Good Deed list.  Here is a consolidated list of what you have come up with.  I am looking for even more
  • Remember Allah
    1. Pray with your parents
    2. Remind someone to pray
    3. Stay in wudou all day
    4. Go to the masjid
    5. Read Quran
    6. Listened to Quran today
    7. Said the dua of waking up
    8. Said the dua of going to sleep
    9. Prayed fajr, zuhr, asr, maghrib, isha... on time!
    10. Recited at least 3 Duas after Salah
    11. Learned a brand new dua!
    12. Recited Dua upon breaking fast
  • Eating
    1. Wake up for sehri with a good attitude
    2. Help your parents clear the table at sehri (extra points!)
    3. Help your parents clear the table at iftar
    4. Help your parents lay the table at iftar
    5. Help your parents lay the table at sehri (extra points!)
    6. Was punctual in suhoor & iftar
    7. Said bismillah before eating sehri & iftar
  • Memorize
    1. Memorize a Surah of your choice
    2. Fed iftar to someone
  • Help Others
    1. Help your parents make iftar
    2. Recycle for a week
    3. Donate a dollar to the masjid
    4. Help parents with a chore
    5. Forgive some one you are upset with
    6. Took good care of someone or something (i.e. watered the plants, played with baby brother)
    7. Good manners to parents (maybe require a parent signature)
    8. Good manners to Sunday School teacher
    9. Good manners to Regular School teacher
    10. Good deed of choice
    11. helping a sibling with homework
    12. helping a friend with classwork/homework

I really enjoy it when my kids remind or participate in salah with me. Feels as good as when they are eating healthy by themselves. So points for any child who participates and encourages parent(s) to pray. This way the child gets to have fun at Wudu, discipline of prayer and the fun aspect of getting a story out of the translated prayer surah (morals included).

Good one!

Assalamalaikum Saadia,

this looks good. I'm thinking it might be better to have a school wide Good Deed list; that way calculating the good deeds per point, etc, will be easier for the kids & teachers. Brothers and sisters from different classes will have a sense of unity and healthy competition at home too.

Ideas I just thought of:

Wake up for sehri with a good attitude

Help your parents clear the table at sehri (extra points!)

Help your parents clear the table at iftar

Help your parents lay the table at iftar

Help your parents lay the table at sehri (extra points!)

Go to the masjid

Help parents with a chore

Read Quran

Listened to Quran today

Was punctual in suhoor & iftar

Fed iftar to someone

Took good care of someone or something (i.e. watered the plants, played with baby brother)

Good deed of choice

Said the dua of waking up

Said the dua of going to sleep

Prayed fajr, zuhr, asr, maghrib, isha... on time!

Good manners to parents (maybe require a parent signature)

Good manners to Sunday School teacher

Good manners to Regular School teacher

Recited at least 3 Duas after Salah

Learned a brand new dua!

Recited Dua upon breaking fast

Said bismillah before eating sehri & iftar

hope these are helpful :)!

Reem

Thank you Reem, GREAT list!

I like the idea of one list.

Maybe even something simple and easy too for the little ones...

fed someone a date

gave someone a glass of water

gave a family member a hug

called up a grandparent to say salam!

taught someone the dua I learned

Wrote a Dua list

Hung up the dua list in my bedroom

Ok I think I'm done now!:)

You are on a roll sister...keep on going if you can!

Since school is starting, we can also add:

  • helping a sibling with homework
  • helping a friend with classwork/homework
  • help parents bring the grocery in
  • help put the grocery up

Great ideas!

Here's another one:

  • Holding the door open for someone

This one is from Neda:

  • Praying taraweeh
  • Praying all 20 rakahs (extra points)

This is from Sis. Asma:

  • Start making duas (even in your own language) 10 minutes before Iftar
  • Read Nawafil rakahs
  • Don't waste food
  • Say Alhamdulillah (or the dua) after eating
  • Serve water (or any drink) at Iftar
  • Memorize and Remember to say duas- wake up, entering and leaving bathroom, after wudu, before and after eating, leaving and entering the house, entering and leaving the Masjid, riding in the car, going to bed
  • Say Salaam to people you know or don't know
  • Give a smile to everybody in the Masjid
  • Pick up trash on the floor/tables in the Masjid
  • Should we have one school wide Good Deed list OR a Good Deed list customized for each class
    • I think we should have one list because then those that are young can look at what they will have to do... deeds should be divided into groups easy, moderate, hard given out on the registration day and the first day of school. (Note that most of these things are rather easy).
  • I am thinking the classes will be determined by Islamic Studies Class  -- Agreed
  • What should be the prize?  -- I think it should be a class wise thing. The class that gets the most cumulative points wins! Now this must be adjusted for younger students and older students according what is below. I also think that the class that wins is determined by how many points per head.... so if a class gets 3000 points and has 30 students they're score is 100. Whichever class has the highest score at the end wins. What do they win? On September 4th, since we will have an eid-ul-fitr party I say that all students will turn in these forms we add up the numbers hopefully we can get 2-3 volunteers on that, the student that gets the most points will get a gift card to toys-r-us??? thats all I can think of, I know my students might want a video game but maybe we shouldn't encourage that. Maybe we should just ask the students what they want then come back here to discuss what they said. For the class that wins... I think they should get a flash pass to any moon walk ride or cotton candy line or snow cone, face painting, henna, etc.
    • Grades KG-2nd - Easy = 15 points Medium = 30points Hard - 55points
    • Grades 3rd-6th  - Easy = 10 Medium =  20 Hard = 40
    • Grades Y1 and Y2 - Easy = 5 point Medium = 15  hard 30
  • What should be on the Good Deed list.  Here is a consolidated list of what you have come up with.  I am looking for even more - So I'm going to organize what you already have and add to it
