We discussed five curriculum options and the benefits and drawbacks of each curriculum:
Weekend Learning: This curriculum is a full package and easily implementable however the authors do not have a Islamic or educational background. Click here for an overview of the curriculum
I Love Islam: This curriculum is designed for younger children and is very child friendly, however it is does not cover the requirements of the Sunday School curriculum. Click here for an overview of the curriculum
Good Words: This curriculum is a full package curriculum that places Islamic concepts in the western context. However it is not well researched and is more of a quick read. Click here for an overview of the curriculum
IQRA: This curriculum is well researched and is able to address each area of curriculum that are required by the DUNS Sunday Curriculum. However, there are too many books and the curriculum is not very well packaged. Click here for an overview of the curriculum
As I have spoken with a number of fellow parents, I discovered that different parents have different expectations from the Sunday School. I have three expectations for my child from attending Sunday School which are:
1. Have a basic understanding of Islam
2. Be able to read the Quran in Arabic
3. Be able to perform daily prayers
It appears Weekend Learning will accomplish the above goals adequately for my child.
Per the request of the parents, latest Curriculum is attached... This curriculum has incorporated the same Quranic Studies Curriculum and uses the Weekend Learning Islamic Studies Curriculum. The Salah Class is broken into four Levels. The teachers are looking this curriculum over. Please comment if you dislike anything.
